Learning Innovation is now headquartered at the Bullpen in Downtown Durham
For the past three years, Learning Innovation has called American Tobacco Campus home. However, like many Duke employees, nearly two years of that time was actually spent working from home. As we adapted first to a remote working culture and then again to a hybrid one, our team has made the decision to continue with a hybrid working model based out of the Bullpen.
What does this look like? Some staff prefer to have a designated working space away from home, so they actually have assigned desks at the Bullpen. The rest of the team will come and go as they want or need to, using whatever desk is available when they arrive, though some meeting spaces can be reserved in advance. Internet at home not working? No problem! The office has great WiFi. Need to stay at home to let the plumber in? Also a non-issue, as many of the spaces in the Bullpen are equipped to handle hybrid meetings to include remote staff.
Why the Bullpen? First, it’s a great office with features that enable us to pursue a hybrid model as well as host events and larger gatherings (including in-person full-staff meetings every other week). Second, it puts us in close contact with the inspiring folks at Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Science and Society and Duke Continuing Studies.
Though our main office location has moved, we will remain available on-campus at Bostock 128. We are grateful for our partnership with Duke Libraries for providing us a conference room and working space so that we may remain accessible to Duke students, faculty and staff on West campus.
Can’t find us? We’ve got everything you need to join us in person at either location on our Getting Here page, including addresses and parking info.
Part of the way we achieve our mission is by “creating a welcoming work environment that supports a healthy work/life balance.” We are approaching this new location and practice of working together while (sometimes) apart as an experiment that we believe will help us accomplish such an environment for our team.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Bullpen!
