The 2012 Instructional Technology Showcase is almost here! Register to attend on Friday, April 27th in the Bryan Center. This event highlights innovative teaching ideas and outstanding work by Duke faculty over the past year. Start your morning with a free breakfast at 8:30 am and attend sessions from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.
A full schedule of the day’s events is available at our 2012 Showcase website. Lunch will be provided to those that register by Wednesday, April 25th at 5 pm.
Sessions include faculty from a wide range of departments and programs at the university. Some of the topics include:
- Student perspectives on social media
- Using games for learning
- Faculty examples of using Sakai tools
- Using DukeCapture beyond dedicated classrooms
- Insights from the DukeImmerse program
- Using iPads in courses where ALL students have an iPad
- Implementing active and team-based learning methods into a Chemistry course
- Using GoogleSketchUp to engage students in the past
The afternoon session will focus on self-directed learning. Through a series of lightning rounds, we will explore initiatives such as Khan Academy, Udemy, MITx, and OLI, as well as tools like Google Hangouts that let students easily connect with fellow learners. Join us to explore and discuss different technologies and trends that are changing what it means to teach a “class.”
In addition to the regular sessions, Sakai help will be available in the morning if you have questions about the Sakai transition, your courses, or any specific tools or items in Sakai.
The Showcase is a great opportunity to talk with your colleagues about teaching, the intersection of technology and learning, and get new ideas for your own classes. We hope you will join us!
