Publishers continue to explore new models of textbook publishing, offering electronic versions of textbooks, integrated or supplemental multimedia and interactive content, and other options for faculty and students. Macmillan is exploring a different approach by offering a textbook that faculty can customize and even rewrite.
The New York Times has an article about these new offerings, noting that the publisher will be offering about 100 titles in the format and that they will sell in e-textbook form at half or less than the price of the traditional printed version.
