Background
A faculty member at Duke University since 2008, Aria holds faculty appointments as Associate Professor of the Practice in the Social Science Research Institute and in the Sanford School of Public Policy. Previously, she completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Thompson Writing Program and served as Core Faculty at Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Aria’s approach to research, teaching, and senior leadership is deeply interdisciplinary and informed by her graduate work in transformative pedagogies, comparative literature, philosophy and aesthetics, and jurisprudence. Some of her recent research projects include understanding how equity-oriented curricular design and innovation mindset impact teaching, how design thinking pedagogies prepare learners for personal, professional, and civic engagement, and student attitudes towards technology as experienced through culturally-relevant and ethics-centered technology education.
Aria holds a PhD in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an MA in English from North Carolina State University, a JD from the University of Maine School of Law, and a BA in English from Bates College.
