Sustainability Education at Duke: Two Support Programs

By its signature on the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, and through the University Climate Action Plan, Duke has committed to take actions that will make “climate neutrality and sustainability a part of the education and other curricular experience of all students.” Faculty who want to incorporate sustainability literacy or education into their courses now have two programs to help:

Trillium Sustainability Workshop: Sustainability across the curriculum

The 10th annual Trillium Sustainability Workshop, with a theme of “Justice and Sustainability,” will be held Wednesday May 8 at NC Central University. This free workshop will help faculty, instructional staff, graduate students, and K-12 teachers:

  • Bring big ideas in sustainability into their courses,
  • Join a cross-campus and inter-institutional network, and
  • Deepen their knowledge of sustainability and place-based education.

Register now (deadline April 22) or contact trilliuminfo@duke.edu with questions.

Trillium Student Research Initiative (TSRI)

The Trillium Student Research Initiative (TSRI) provides resources for faculty to create new courses or adapt existing courses to incorporate sustainability literacy or education. The initiative is a new program that will provide selected faculty with a student researcher up to 11 weeks over summer 2019. This student researcher will assist faculty with relevant research for course material and help draft exams, homework, and class activities.

Applications due February 28, 5 pm.
