Education innovators in Durham and the Triangle will have new opportunities to collaborate, thanks to a coworking program and space coming to our community. The coworking program, tentatively called Embark@Duke, is a partnership between Duke Learning Innovation, Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Entangled, an education innovation studio based in San Francisco.
The space will support changemakers in education. It will bring together edtech firms (from startups to established companies), social ventures, Duke student projects and nonprofits to work on innovation projects that align with the educational missions of Duke and Entangled. The location of the space is yet to be determined, but will be in downtown Durham.
Members of the Durham and Duke communities are invited to participate in a community planning session on December 3, 6-8PM at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bullpen. Rob Urstein and Marty Evans, co-founders of Embark, and Matthew Rascoff, Associate Vice Provost for Digital Education and Innovation at Duke, will lead an interactive session in which attendees can help imagine what a physical epicenter for the future of education innovation might look like in the Triangle. This program is part of a broader initiative to develop and operate sector-focused incubators and coworking spaces on college campuses, to attract startups and build ecosystems that help higher education drive economic growth through community.
