The Distance Education Special Interest Group at Duke (DE SIG @Duke) is a grassroots, open, and informal community of staff and faculty, created in 2012, in order to facilitate networking and the sharing of experiences and resources between those interested in DE at Duke. The group meets every other month to discuss a range of distance education topics, primarily focused on program administration, pedagogy/andragogy, and technology. Participants come from all units at Duke and include instructors, program directors and coordinators, IT directors and staff, instructional designers, and academic technology consultants.
Join us at our April session, as we discuss own distance education practices. What lessons have we learned? What are some current challenges?
Session Title: Lessons Learned and Learning Lessons
Description: We’re trying something different this time. Instead of a guest speaker(s) on a certain topic, we are counting on some of our attendees to come ready to participate in a discussion. Specifically, we want people to share: 1) experiences that were good learning opportunities or teachable moments (and perhaps how these challenges would be addressed the next time), and/or 2) current problems of practice — what have you not quite figured out how to deal with yet? — with the intent of seeking advice from others in the room, or opening it up for discussion. While this meeting is open to anyone in the Duke community with an interest in DE, and people are welcome to be passive observers of the discussion, we hope that many will come with something in mind to share.
Date: Tuesday, April 14, 2015: 3pm-4:30pm
Location: Bostock 024
RSVP: Not required [All meetings are open to anyone at Duke with an interest in distance education]
DE SIG @Duke meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every even-numbered month from 3pm-4:30pm, in Bostock 024 (CIT Conference room).
We are going to try something different again at our June 9 session — our first ever DE SIG social. In addition to everyone getting a chance to make some new, meaningful connections with their peers from across Duke, we will allow people to write their suggestions for 2015/2016 session topics on the whiteboard.

Very informative information is shared here. Distance education is more chosen by students. There are many academies available providing courses for distance education.
