Brad Perez (Duke School of Medicine) and Megan von Isenburg (Duke Medical Center Library)

Project description:

During the Fall semester of 2010, Brad Perez (Duke School of Medicine) and Megan von Isenburg (Duke Medical Center Library) will explore use of iPads to provide access to clinical tools and patient education information, and assess how these tools impact clinical decision making.

The goal of this project is to improve the quality of medical education and clinical care by harnessing new technologies to help with information gathering and clinical decision-making. They seek to use the iPad as a tool for improving resident, medical student, and attending education by allowing easier access to clinical tools, patient care data, and patient  education information. Initially, their plans will be to work within the Department of Internal Medicine to pilot iPad use on the wards among faculty, students, and house staff on the general medical service at Duke Hospital.

Start date: September 2010
