On Wednesday, April 10, the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs will host a talk on the topic of ePortfolios. Helen Chen, a senior researcher in the Designing Education Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of ePortfolio initiatives in the Office of the Registrar at Stanford University, will speak on ePortfolios. During her talk, entitled “Why ePortfolios? Why Now?”, Dr. Chen will address why ePortfolios are more than just a technology. They imply a process of planning, keeping track of, making sense of, and sharing evidence of learning and performance. She will also describe a set of reflective practices and an understanding of learning which she co-developed called Folio Thinking.
This session will introduce a framework for exploring and designing an ePortfolio approach to meet specific learning outcomes and objectives. Drawing upon emerging research findings and case studies from a range of students, disciplines, and institutions, this session will engage participants in exploring the practical considerations of implementing and sustaining an ePortfolio initiative.
This event will take place April 10 in Perkins Library Room 217 from 4 to 5 pm and is open to all members of the Duke community.
