Overview

Dates:  December 2010-May 2011.

During Spring 2011, the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) and the Thompson Writing Program (TWP) jointly offered a semester-long Faculty Fellowship program to provide support for faculty interested in developing and evaluating new approaches to teaching research and writing to undergraduates in their disciplines.  The program was led by Jennifer Ahern-Dodson, Instructor, Thompson Writing Program.

Fellows Activities

The Fellows met each month during the spring semester 2011 to discuss problems and strategies for more effective teaching of research together with and by means of writing.

Topics discussed and worked on by the Fellows for their individual courses during the Fellowship included setting student learning goals and increasing student engagement, as well as technologies that can be used for collaborative and community engagement writing projects and types of writing assignments that facilitate integrating research into a class.

Outcomes

During the program, the Fellows developed syllabus revisions, rubrics and other materials for use in organizing activities in their courses.
