Overview

Dates:  August 2008-May 2009.

During the 2008-2009 academic year, the CIT conducted a fellows program to support faculty interested in developing and evaluating approaches to using video for student course activities.

Fellows Activities

In the first phase of the program in Fall 2008, faculty explored a wide range of formal and informal student video assignments, developing student projects they will try in a Spring 2009 course.  In Spring 2009, faculty implement student video activities in one or more courses and developed a set of best practices for student video curricular activities at Duke.

During the Fall, project participants attended two-hour monthly meetings where, through hands-on activities, discussions and group work, they learned about video production and methods for creating and evaluating student video projects.  In December 2008, the Fellows met and presented their project plans for the Spring and shared ideas on what they had tried so far.

In Spring 2009, the Fellows attended a half-day session in March and a full-day session in May where they reported results from their student video projects and participated in intensive work sessions to document best practices for student video curricular activities for the benefit of other Duke faculty.

Part of their work in sharing information with the Duke community was development of short profiles of their projects for the CIT web site.  In addition, the Fellows created an online report on best practices for student video assignments.

Fellows who successfully complete this program received up to $4,000 in funds transferred to a Duke faculty research account.
