- Sakai upgraded on May 12, 2018 ( Release notes)
- Partnered with Duke’s Vice President for Interdisciplinary Studies to rework the process for Duke’s TeachX program
- Sakai SISS gradebook integration
- New Attendance tool added to Sakai
- Partnered with Duke University School of Nursing to explore a Designed Learning Experience approach/alternative to traditional online course platforms
- OpenEdx pilot (branded Duke Extend) wrapped and service announced

Online Duke
- Completely redesigned online.duke.edu with a focus on new learner acquisition
- Launched Coursera for Duke, a new way for Duke students, faculty and staff to gain free access all of Duke’s Coursera courses and specializations
- Hired a Market Research Analyst to complement our ability to consult on best uses of online to meet Duke school and department targets and goals
- Launched our second MOOC on Duke Extend (a second session of Introduction to Astronomy)
- Developed a math refresher for Duke Sanford’s Master of International Development Policy and Master of Public Policy students
- Redesigned several modules/courses in Fuqua’s Global Executive MBA program (partnered with Fuqua team)
- Launched Nanotechnology: A Maker’s Course on Coursera. Our first MOOC collaboration between Duke, NC State and UNC.
- Revisions to “Excel to MySQL” and “Java Programming” Coursera Specializations wrapping up. Published our evaluation of the Specialization development.
- New Object Oriented Programming Specialization (launched September 2017) – collaboration with the University of California San Diego
- Produced modules with the Duke Center for Health Informatics for AMIA 10×10 on Data Standards for Learning Health Systems
- Researched different institutions’ approaches to faculty incentives for online course development and teaching for Duke’s Advisory Committee on Online Education
